FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

The things owners usually ask before we start. If yours isn’t here, just ask.

The basics

What exactly is a fractional CFO?

A CFO you share. You get senior financial leadership, the strategy, the forecasting, the decision support, for a fraction of the time and cost of a full time hire. I work with a small number of businesses, giving each the CFO level thinking it needs without the full time salary.

How is this different from my accountant or bookkeeper?

They look backward, I look forward. Your bookkeeper records what happened and your accountant files the taxes. I take those numbers and help you decide what to do next, about cash, margin, pricing, and growth. Different job, same team.

Do you replace my accountant or bookkeeper?

No, and I wouldn’t want to. They do essential work that should stay with them. I work the level above and alongside them. In practice, having a fractional CFO tends to make your bookkeeper and accountant more effective, not less.

Are you a CPA? Can you handle my taxes or audit?

I am a CPA, with CPA Canada and CPABC. I do not provide tax filing, audit, review, or other assurance services, and I keep clear of that work on purpose. Those belong with your accountant. My focus is advisory: cash, margin, forecasting, and the decisions that shape the business.

How we’d work together

What kind of businesses do you work with?

Owner run and family businesses, roughly $1M to $20M in revenue, in construction, manufacturing, marine, and the trades, across British Columbia. Companies that have outgrown bookkeeping but are not ready for a full time CFO.

How much of your time do I actually get?

As much as the business needs, and no more. Some clients need a few focused days a month, others need a steadier presence. We scope it together and set a fixed monthly fee around it.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. Engagements are month to month with a fixed fee agreed up front. If it stops being worth it, you can stop. I would rather earn the relationship each month than lock you into a year.

Do you work remotely or in person?

Both. I’m based in Victoria and work with businesses across BC. Most of the work happens remotely, with on site time when it matters: a planning session, a board meeting, or getting to know your team.

Money & getting started

What does it cost?

A fixed monthly fee, scoped to what your business needs and agreed before we start. No hourly billing, and no surprises on the invoice. The free finance review is where we work out the right scope, and the right fee.

How does the free finance review work?

We start with a short conversation. Then I sign an NDA, look at your numbers and where the money actually goes, and come back with a written summary and a 90 day plan. It is yours to keep whether or not we work together. Worst case, you get a clear read on your business for free.

What happens after the review?

If it is a fit, I step in as your fractional CFO and we get to work on the plan. If it is not, you walk away with the analysis and no obligation. Either way, you finish further ahead than when we started.

Still have a question?

Ask it directly, or start with a free finance review. No cost, no obligation.

Less complexity. More impact.
